It is time to get your Holiday Groove on. For some people this is s natural process and for others it is all but impossible. Over the years, I have worked with clients on each side of the Holiday Groove divide. I ask them to work on the simple but somewhat challenging idea of FOCUS. The Holiday Season can be one of great delight, excitement, anticipation, and for some pain. Because each person perceives the Holiday Season with their own set of history and experience it is important to FOCUS on what is most important and brings the greatest amount of joy and satisfaction.
STEP ONE - FOCUS on the little things that matter to you the most. Make a short list of two to four items you would like to accomplish this Holiday Season. Perhaps it is baking cookies or making gifts for a select group of family members, friends, or co-workers. It could be to experience a Silent Holiday in which you focus on the gift of inner peace. Whatever items you select they should have to goal of bring you a sense of self-awareness and discovery.
STEP TWO - FOCUS on the two to four items by identifying: 1) Why you have selected the item or task? 2) How long do you want to focus on the item or task? 3) What joy or sense of satisfaction this will bring to your life?
STEP THREE - FOCUS on the processes. If you have trouble getting started on an item, it may help to write down the steps involved to get the job done. That is one way to focus on the process.
STEP FOUR - FOCUS on the sense of accomplishment. Finding your Holiday Groove should ultimately lead to a sense of wellbeing. It may come out of making the cookies or a crafted item for others or perhaps out of observing Christmas Eve or one or several days in silent reflection. Celebrating our accomplishments is a vital piece of one's mental and physical wellbeing.
Find your Holiday Groove this season by maintaining your FOCUS and being true to yourself.
Take care and be healthy,
Kimberley
